Harding Hill Farm May Newsletter

Posted 5/2/2016 4:23pm by The Webb Family.

Greetings from all of us at Harding Hill Farm,

April showers bring... May calves! If you didn't hear during sugaring season, we have four Belted Galloway cows due to have calves here on the farm this spring. Our first calf came late last night, and we fittingly named the little girl Mayday! She is a black belted calf out of our dun belted cow, April. How does that happen? Read my latest blog post to learn a bit more about the breed, why we chose it, and the various color combinations. Both mom and calf are doing quite well on this rainy day.

As if there wasn't enough cuteness around here, we are picking up eight piglets this coming Sunday. We will have a very similar breed mix as we did last year, and they will be raised on a pasture-based system.

Meanwhile, with all these scattered rain showers, Van spent most of his weekend on the tractor spreading fertilizer on our hay fields. We are hoping for a much more productive year than last year. Happy Spring!

Grass Fed Beef - fresh supply coming in May

As many of you know, we are running low on many cuts of steak. We will be replenishing the supply by mid-May! Interested in purchasing by the cut? Contact us for the latest availability and prices, and we arrange a convenient time for you to pick up your order at our farm on Stagecoach Road in Sunapee.

For our bulk beef buyers - We are sold out! All of the 2016 slots for whole, half, and quarter cows have been filled. Contact us early if you are interested in beef for the 2017 season.

Pasture-Raised Pork will be back in late 2016!

As mentioned above, we are raising eight pigs this year on our rotational pasture system. We had some great feedback last year, and we sold out of most cuts in less than two months. This year, we doubled our numbers, and we also changed up the person that will be smoking our bacon. We are looking forward to these delicious changes.

For our bulk pork buyers - We are sold out! All of the 2016 slots for whole and half pigs have been filled. We will have a selection of retail cuts available in November. Contact us early if you are interested in pork for the 2017 season.

We are hoping to see more green in our pastures after this rain is done! Signs of spring keep appearing on the farm with daffodils in bloom and asparagus starting to peak out above the soil.
